I was just asked a really great question and I don’t recall ever posting about it =)
Tips on joining a gym.. how to fit in, etc.. These are just things I’ve personally found helpful! Feel free to add to this list!
- Do the week free - many gyms offer free trial periods to test out their gym. Take the opportunity and try to attend the gym at the time you would normally go.. that way you can see how crowded it is and what the environment is like.
- Don’t be shy - this is hard for me, as I’m naturally a very shy person… but sometimes, asking staff members, trainers and even other gym goers (when they aren’t working out) what they like best about the gym and least about the gym.. this can help give you some added insight!
- Take a friend - if you’re wary of going to a new gym alone, bring a friend along. Most gyms offer day passes (if not, they could sign up for the trial period with you!) Having a training partner can be a great boost!
I’ve tried out several gyms since I got home from college, and it wasn’t until fairly recently that I found one where I felt “at home.” Don’t get discouraged if the first one or two you visit aren’t what you are looking for… it took me months to find one that I finally liked!! =)
